Concerts in the Parks @ Home Musician Slideshow

More than 14 million people have attended the free New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks since they began in 1965, but only a select few have experienced them from the musicians’ perspective. As promised, here’s a sample of the view from the stage.

Don’ t forget: tonight is our star-studded broadcast, the culmination of Concerts in the Parks @ Home, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, our week-long celebration of the beloved summer series that has brought 14 million New Yorkers together for priceless music under the stars, absolutely free, since 1965. While you watch, recreate the classic Concerts in the Parks experience using this downloadable prep-your-picnic checklist, tonight’s program, and these Zoom backgrounds.

And in case you missed it: check out this slideshow of the past 50+ years of Concerts in the Parks; the virtual archival exhibits Top 10 Concerts in the Parks Moments and Priceless Music, Absolutely Free; and al fresco performances by bass trombonist George Curran and oboist Robert Botti.

Concerts in the Parks @ Home Slideshow

Tonight won’t be just any night. Tonight is our broadcast that is at the center of Concerts in the Parks @ Home, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer. The superstar soloists are violinist Joshua Bell (performing music from, you guessed it, West Side Story), Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and the Philharmonic, including selections performed by the musicians at a social distance and led by Music Director Jaap van Zweden. The broadcast culminates our week-long celebration of the beloved summer series that has brought 14 million New Yorkers together for priceless music under the stars, absolutely free, since 1965.

To set the mood, flip through this slideshow of photos from 50+ years of the Philharmonic’s Concerts in the Parks. (You can check out the musicians’ point of view in their slideshow.)

While we can’t convene with our fellow New Yorkers in person this summer, we can gather virtually — not only with our neighbors, but with anyone across the country and around the world. Where will you be tuning in? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube (#nypparksathome), and we’ll pin your city on our global tune-in map
