Watch New Year’s Eve: Bernstein on Broadway on Live From Lincoln Center

If you won’t be with us for New Year’s Eve: Bernstein on Broadway, our sold-out tribute to former Music Director Leonard Bernstein, you’re in luck: it will be telecast on Live From Lincoln Center at 9:00 PM on December 31 on PBS! Check your local listings to confirm the time in your area. [Watch the archived video here or above.]

Toast the New Year and Lenny’s 100th with West Side Story’s star-crossed lovers, On the Town’s fun-loving sailors, and Wonderful Town’s bright-eyed New Yorkers as portrayed by Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford, Hamilton’s Christopher Jackson, Cinderella’s Laura Osnes, and Next to Normal’s Aaron Tveit. Our old friend Bramwell Tovey conducts, Lonny Price provides staging and continuity, and Westminster Festival Chorus rounds out the stellar line-up.

The concert continues the Philharmonic’s season-long celebrations of its Laureate Conductor’s 100th birthday year. On February 22–24, Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen will lead Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which the Philharmonic premiered in 1961. And “Bernstein’s Mahler Marathon: The Sony Recordings,” 13 hours of his performances of his Philharmonic predecessor’s complete symphonies on Sunday, will take place at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium on February 25.

Alan Gilbert Nominated for Emmy for Sinatra: Voice for a Century

Alan Gilbert Sinatra: Voice for a Century

To quote Ol' Blue Eyes himself, ring-a-ding-ding!

Yesterday Music Director Alan Gilbert was nominated for an Emmy for Best Musical Direction for Sinatra: Voice for a Century, which Live From Lincoln Center presented on PBS on December 18, 2015.

The nomination is the latest recognition of the versatility of Gilbert and the Philharmonic, who perform American popular song, musical theater, and opera with the same commitment to excellence they bring to classical music.

The concert, co-presented with Lincoln Center, took place December 3, 2015. It celebrated the 100th birthday of Sinatra through performances of songs with which he was closely associated. Performing them with the Philharmonic were Christina Aguilera, Chris Botti, Fantasia, Sutton Foster, Seth MacFarlane (who also hosted), Bernadette Peters, Sting, and others.

SLIDESHOW: 174th Season Opening Gala Concert

Last night not only marked the New York Philharmonic’s 174th season opening — it also unveiled David Geffen Hall, the new name of the Orchestra’s Lincoln Center home; marked the inaugural appearance of Frank Huang as Philharmonic Concertmaster; and celebrated a historic gift from Philharmonic Chairman Oscar S. Schafer and his wife, Didi. Oprah Winfrey, Steve Martin, Barbara Walters, Woody Allen, George Lucas, Patricia Clarkson, Diane Sawyer, and Alec Baldwin were among the friends and supporters who gathered for the unveiling ceremony plus the Opening Gala cocktail reception, glamorous dinner, and the concert itself — featuring Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra in Beethoven and Grieg with pianist Lang Lang as soloist. The Empire State Building shone Philharmonic red in celebration of the new season. Relive the star-studded night!

God That's Good! Sweeney Wins the Emmy

"Sweeney Todd" New York Philharmonic

“The Worst Pies in London”? How about the best special program on TV — better than Beyoncé and Jay-Z and the Oscars?!

We are thrilled that the New York Philharmonic’s 2014 production of Sweeney Todd, telecast on Live From Lincoln Center and hosted by Audra McDonald (who also played The Beggar Woman), won the 2015 Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Program.

We also congratulate Music Director Alan Gilbert and Emma Thompson for their nominations for Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie, respectively. They top the long list of those who played a role in this exciting victory, on stage and off. (Keep your fingers crossed for Emma; her category's winner will be announced this Sunday.) Congratulations and thanks to all!

Enjoy this look back at Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lovett.
