The New York Philharmonic welcomed the Year of the Pig at the eighth annual Lunar New Year Concert and Gala, a festive fire-themed evening — representing warmth, light, energy, and prosperity — presented by Starr International Foundation. Kahchun Wong made his Philharmonic debut conducting the program, which included the US Premiere of a new violin concerto by Oscar winner Tan Dun, Stravinsky’s The Firebird, music by Mozart, Shin Arirang, and more. Gala guests began the evening with a colorful cocktail reception and gathered after the concert for a dinner of Lunar New Year delicacies.
