PHOTOS: 2017 Shanghai Residency Begins

Posted July 05, 2017

The New York Philharmonic’s third annual Shanghai performance residency, July 2–8, has begun. Music Director Alan Gilbert has already conducted the Orchestra in two concerts featuring Mahler, Dvořák, and Brahms with legendary pianist Yefim Bronfman, and Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen led a Young People’s Concert featuring music by Very Young Composers of New York and Shanghai. Philharmonic musicians have also been busy teaching Shanghai Orchestra Academy students — through lessons and a side-by-side rehearsal — and inspiring Very Young Composers. The residency is part of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership, presented by Starr International Foundation and a cornerstone and founding component of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy.
