Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic Are Europe-Bound

Posted January 25, 2017

Today we announced details of the EUROPE / SPRING 2017 tour, March 23–April 7, 2017, featuring 14 concerts in Antwerp, Luxembourg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Hamburg, Budapest, Vienna, London, and Copenhagen.

The Orchestra will be joined by violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1, soprano Christina Landshamer in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, cellist Yo-Yo Ma in the European Premiere of Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Cello Concerto; and Concertmaster Frank Huang, Principal Associate Concertmaster Sheryl Staples, Principal Viola Cynthia Phelps, and Principal Cello Carter Brey as the quartet in John Adams’s Absolute Jest.

The Orchestra will perform in Hamburg’s newly opened Elbphilharmonie, and appear in its third International Associate residency at London’s Barbican Centre — including the Philharmonic’s first-ever international Very Young People’s Concert.

The EUROPE / SPRING 2017 tour is sponsored by J.C. Flowers & Co. Generous support is provided by Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis.
