Global Academy Update

Posted July 15, 2016

New York Philharmonic Global Academy

Alan Gilbert’s appearance earlier this week at Music Academy of the West — a Philharmonic Global Academy partner — has garnered raves! Gilbert led the Academy Festival Orchestra in a concert featuring works by Berg, Haydn, and Beethoven that was described by the Santa Barbara Independent as “an outstanding program” in which “Gilbert brought these excellent young musicians together in a thoroughly joyous achievement in music making.”

Earlier this year, nine musicians from Music Academy of the West traveled to New York to participate in the Philharmonic’s Global Academy Fellowship program as part of the second year of the four-year partnership.

Musically excellent, educationally inspiring experiences like these are precisely why the Philharmonic founded the Global Academy. Learn more about it here, and watch out for the return to Santa Barbara by the full Philharmonic next summer, for the 70th Anniversary of Music Academy of the West.
