On February 24 the New York Philharmonic welcomed the Year of the Sheep at its fourth-annual Chinese New Year Concert and Gala. Philharmonic supporters gathered for a cocktail reception, dinner, and the concert itself — spotlighting cello virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma, sheng master Wu Tong, vocalist Lei Jia, and ghijak player Gulinaer Yiming with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Long Yu.
