  • About the Program

The New York Philharmonic This Week gives millions of listeners around the world the opportunity to hear select recent performances as well as programs curated from the Orchestra’s archives and commercial recordings. The series’ honors have included the Grand Jury Prize at the New York Festivals International Broadcast Competition and multiple top prizes for Best Director, Best Sound, and Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program from The New York Festivals, the AVA Digital Awards, and the Hermes Creative Awards.

Since the New York Philharmonic’s first live national radio broadcast — over the CBS network on October 5, 1930, with Erich Kleiber conducting at Carnegie Hall — the Orchestra has enjoyed an almost continuous presence on national radio. In 2006 it became the first major American orchestra to offer downloadable concerts, recorded live. The Philharmonic has made nearly 2,000 recordings since 1917, with more than 500 currently available; the most recent present the World Premieres of two Philharmonic commissions: Julia Wolfe’s Grammy-nominated Fire in my mouth and David Lang’s prisoner of the state, both conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, available on the Decca Gold label. The Orchestra streams performance video and audio recordings on NYPhil+.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin is the host of the program, New York Philharmonic Director of Media Production Mark Travis is the writer and producer with assistance from Associate Producer Ian Good, and New York Philharmonic Audio Director Lawrence Rock is the engineer for the series. The Executive Producers are Isaac Thompson, Lisa Grow, Justin Brown, and Adam Crane.
