Esa-Pekka Salonen and Yuja Wang

A celebration of influential French master Olivier Messiaen’s music, from the massive to the miniature, from Brooklyn to the Temple of Dendur. “Messiaen is one of my heroes,” says Music Director Alan Gilbert. “His music touches a spiritual side that is important to explore whether or not you are religious.”

Featuring the Turangalîla-symphonie (“Sweet melodies spiced with the otherworldly sound of the ondes martenot, Southern Indian rhythms … birdsong and outrageous dances,” says conductor/Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen). Plus CONTACT! in Brooklyn, a piano recital in a church, and chamber music at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Temple of Dendur.
