Very Young People’s Concert: Tutti! / Uwaragua Wama!

Apr 02

After two years we look forward to playing with music, again! In music, tutti means all voices and instruments coming together and in Garifuna, uwaragua wama means all in unison. Join us — along with host Becky, Philharmonic musicians, and special guest Garifuna musicians — for games and laughs in a fun musical exchange.

For children ages 5–7 and their families.

All VYPC attendees, including children, will be required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 with a vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization or the Food and Drug Administration. Children under 5 years of age, who are currently not eligible for vaccination, will not be permitted entry.

In addition, all guests attending Philharmonic performances must maintain appropriate face coverings in accordance with current CDC guidelines.

  • Rebecca Young

    Host

Rebecca Young joined the New York Philharmonic in 1986 as its youngest member. In 1991 she won the position of Associate Principal Viola. Two months later she was named principal viola of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After spending the 1992–93 season in Boston and two summers at Tanglewood, she ultimately decided to return to her family in New York, resuming her Associate Principal position with the Philharmonic in September 1994. She can currently be seen leading the viola section of the All-Star Orchestra, a popular televised educational series about classical music.

  • James Lovell and the Afri-Garifuna Music Ambassadors

    Artistic Advisor

James Lovell and the Afri-Garifuna Music Ambassadors (JLAMA) are an eclectic musical ensemble who use their instruments and voices to “edutain” their audience and fans about their Garifuna Heritage. JLAMA maintains its authentic and traditional Garifuna music and fuses it with that of other cultures, transcending boundaries and enabling the ensemble to share the stage with other cultures and folk traditions. JLAMA connects different cultures by identifying similarities and by encouraging its audience and fans to be active participants by singing and dancing.
