Victor Zeyu Li

Violinist Zeyu Victor Li joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2017. Born in China in 1996, he began playing the violin at age four. At the age of nine, he was accepted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music middle school, and at 13 he won First Prize in the junior division of the Ninth China National Violin Competition, in which he was the competition’s only award winner for the performance of a Chinese work. The next year he began studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. Mr. Li has served as associate concertmaster of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and assistant concertmaster of the New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. He has performed as a soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra; Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Sendai philharmonic orchestras; and Montreal, Brevard, and USC symphony orchestras, working with conductors including Tan Dun, Cristian Măcelaru, Maxim Vengerov, Michael Stern, and Jamie Laredo. Mr. Li gave the World Premiere of Roberto Sierra’s Rapsódico with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in 2015, after being awarded First Prize in the 21st Annual Schadt String Competition. He has also won First Prize in the Summit Music Festival Concerto Competition; Third Prize in the Montreal International Musical Competition; Special Jury Prize in the Sendai International Music Competition; Composers Prize in the Menuhin Competition; and First Prize in the junior division of the Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition. Zeyu Victor Li’s teachers have included Aaron Rosand and Ida Kavafian. His first album, The Charm of the Violin, was released when he was 16 years old.
