Biography
Seong-Jin Cho

Seong-Jin Cho is rapidly embarking on a world-class career and considered one of the most distinctive artists of his generation. He was brought to the world’s attention in 2015 when he won the First Prize at the Chopin International Competition in Warsaw. In January 2016 he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The first recording featured Chopin’s First Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra and Gianandrea Noseda, and the Four Ballades. A solo Debussy recording was released in 2017; in 2018, he released a Mozart album featuring sonatas and the D-minor Concerto with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Yannick-Nézet-Séguin.

An active recitalist, Mr. Cho performs in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls including Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Los Angeles’s Walt Disney Hall, Munich’s Prinzregententheater, and Liederhalle Stuttgart, as well as in the Berlin Philharmonic concert series.

Upcoming engagements include debut recitals at Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, Paris’s Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Helsinki’s Musikkitalo, Kennedy Center, Victoria Hall Geneva, London’s Wigmore Hall, and Bridgewater Hall Manchester, and returns to Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Konzerthaus Vienna, Duke Performances in Durham, North Carolina, and the Verbier Festival.

Mr. Cho collaborates with conductors including Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gianandrea Noseda, Antonio Pappano, Myung-Whun Chung, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jaap van Zweden, Yannick Nézet-Seguin, Gustavo Dudamel, Yuri Temirkanov, Marek Janowski, Vasily Petrenko, Jakub Hrůša, Leonard Slatkin, and Mikhail Pletnev.

Born in 1994 in Seoul, Seong-Jin Cho started piano studies at six and gave his first public recital at eleven. In 2012 he moved to Paris to study with Michel Béroff at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, graduating in 2015. He is now based in Berlin.
