Nehprii Amenii is a puppeteer, visual theater artist, writer, and director. She has worked with Penumbra Theatre Company, The Flea Theater, Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, The Bushwick Starr, IATI Theater, La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre, Virginia Stage Company, American Dance Institute, Holland Festival, Minnesota Orchestra, Bread and Puppet Theater, Cirque du Soleil, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation.
In 2013 she was awarded the Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin Prize for playwriting. In 2015 she was invited as a US delegate for the Women Playwrights International Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a sponsored artist of the New York Foundation for the Arts, recipient of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Creative Engagement grant, and supported by the Puffin Foundation.
Ms. Amenii uses puppetry and multimedia storytelling to teach English to newly arrived immigrant students. She serves on the advisory committee of the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry, is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, and holds a master’s in fine arts in theater production from Sarah Lawrence College.
