Julie Mathevet

A graduate of the Opéra national de Paris’s Atelier Lyrique in 2008, soprano Julie Mathevet’s coloratura is particularly delightful in French and Mozartian repertoire. Dedicated to constant artistic exploration, she collaborates with the leading names in stage direction, and is equally and attracted to atypical projects and contemporary creation. She sang the role of Eglé in the premiere of Benoît Mernier’s La Dispute at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, directed by Ursel and K.E. Hermann, who later invited her to sing Servilia in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice. Her other operatic roles include Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, and Lydia in Fauré’s Pénélope, both at La Monnaie. She has sung The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Paris’s Opera de Massy, under the direction of Joël Suhubiette, and on tour with Opera Éclaté. Ms. Mathevet’s taste for acting led to her portrayal of Eurydice in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and Fantasia in a production of Offenbach’s Le Voyage dans la Lune directed by Olivier Desbordes. She also played Sophie in Massenet’s Werther with the Aquitaine Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Mathevet has sung Yniold in Debussy’s Pelleas et Melisande on many stages: at Opéra national de Paris, under the direction of Philippe Jordan in a dramatization by Robert Wilson; at the Verbier Festival, with José van Dam and conducted by Charles Dutoit; at Malmö Opera; with The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst in a dramatization by Yuval Sharon, and with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, also directed by Mr. Dutoit. Her recent and future engagements include a return to Malmö Opera as Miss Ellen in Delibes Lakmé, and Naiad in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos with The Cleveland Orchestra.
