David Fray

Pianist David Fray has collaborated with leading orchestras under conductors including Jaap van Zweden as well as Marin Alsop, Semyon Bychkov, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniele Gatti, Paavo Järvi, Kurt Masur, Riccardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Michael Sanderling, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. European orchestral appearances have included Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, London’s Philharmonia Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Salzburg Mozarteum, Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestre de Paris, and Orchestre national de France. He made his US debut in 2009 with The Cleveland Orchestra, and has since performed with the Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestras. He has given recitals at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Park Avenue Armory, and Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and appears regularly at the Vienna Konzerthaus, Mozarteum Salzburg, London’s Wigmore Hall, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, and other venues worldwide.

This season, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées presents a Bach cycle with Mr. Fray performing the concertos for two, three, and four pianos; sonatas with violinist Renaud Capuçon; and Goldberg Variations. He returns to the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and National Arts Centre Orchestra; gives recitals in Amsterdam, Budapest, Dresden, Milan, and Istanbul; and tours South Korea and Russia. He partners again with Renaud Capuçon for recitals throughout Europe. Orchestral collaborations include the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Vienna Radio Symphony, and play-directing Porto’s Casa da Música Orchestra. In recent seasons, Mr. Fray toured Asia with the Dresden Philharmonic and Michael Sanderling, made his Vancouver Symphony Orchestra debut, and appeared at the Prague Spring Festival. Last summer he was a guest artist at Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, teaching a series of master classes and performing a recital.
