Amy Mainzer

Amy Mainzer is a senior research scientist in the Science division at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). She serves as the principal investigator for the Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE), a NASA space mission dedicated to observing, tracking, and characterizing near-Earth asteroids and comets. Prior to joining JPL in 2003, she worked as an engineer at Lockheed Martin, where she built a small camera for NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope. Dr. Mainzer serves as the curriculum advisor and on-camera host for the PBS Kids television series Ready Jet Go!, which teaches space and Earth science to three- to eight-year-olds. At JPL Dr. Mainzer has mentored approximately two dozen students, ranging from high school through graduate levels. In 2018 she received the NASA Exceptional Public Service medal for her work on near-Earth asteroids.
