Before the Orchestra’s second concert in San Francisco, Associate Principal Trumpet Matthew Muckey takes advantage of a little free time to check out the City by the Bay in a sporty convertible.

During the May 14, 2012, morning rehearsal with Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow prepares for his solo turn in Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 1 for the concert in San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall that evening.

The friendly sports rivalry between the New York Philharmonic Penguins and the San Francisco Symphomaniacs, which began 30 years ago, led to a rematch on May 13, 2012, the day of the first of two performances by the New Yorkers in the City by the Bay. The locals would win, but a good time was had by all, including the two Music Directors, with San Francisco’s Michael Tilson Thomas on the sidelines and the Big Apple’s Alan Gilbert on Lazzeri Field.
