Opening Day, September 21, 2011, 7:15AM: For the fifth consecutive year, the New York Philharmonic and Credit Suisse, its Global Sponsor, celebrated the beginning of the Orchestra’s season with a Free Dress Rehearsal — a gift to the people of New York — which featured the music for the evening’s Gala Opening Night Concert. Music lovers lined up as early as 4:15 a.m. in front of Avery Fisher Hall to receive tickets.

Early-birds who lined up on Lincoln Center’s Josie Robertson Plaza met New York Philharmonic musicians, President Zarin Mehta, and Music Director Alan Gilbert, and heard from Classical 109.5 FM WQXR announcer Elliott Forest while waiting to enter Avery Fisher Hall for the Free Dress Rehearsal for the evening’s Opening Night Concert.

VIDEO: Walton and Musorgsky in Vail
Ludovic Morlot conducted the New York Philharmonic’s July 27, 2011, concert at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival. The program included Walton’s Violin Concerto, with Gil Shaham, a proponent of works from the 1930s, as soloist, and concluded with Ravel’s arrangement of Musorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
