Associate Principal Oboe Sherry Sylar joined the New York Philharmonic in 1984. Previously she performed with the Louisville Orchestra and taught at the University of Evansville in Indiana. Her most recent solo performance with the Philharmonic was in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin in March 2005. In 2001 the Boston Symphony Orchestra invited her to perform solo principal oboe in tour performances led by Bernard Haitink, which concluded with a concert at Carnegie Hall, and in 2003 she substituted for an ailing principal oboist for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France’s Carnegie Hall debut conducted by Myung-Whun Chung. She was also invited to China as a judge in the Beijing National Orchestra’s first-ever auditions. Ms. Sylar earned her bachelor’s degree in music at Indiana University and her master’s degree from Northwestern University. She gives master classes internationally, has participated in the Aspen and Grand Teton Music Festivals, and performs chamber music regularly, including at Merkin Concert Hall and the 92nd Street Y. She is on the faculty of the Mannes College of Music.

Oboist Robert Botti joined the New York Philharmonic in 1992, having been principal oboe of the New York City Opera Orchestra. He has appeared as soloist with the New York Symphonic Ensemble and performed in the Grand Teton, Bach Stony Brook, and Music from Colorado festivals. He has collaborated and recorded with Gunther Schuller and Wynton Marsalis as a guest artist with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and is a member of the Sylvan Winds, with whom he has given many premieres. Bassoonist Roger Nye joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2005 after serving as the second bassoonist of the Omaha Symphony for 11 seasons. Raised in Michigan, he attended the Interlochen Arts Academy for the last two years of high school, where he studied with Robert Barris, now bassoon instructor at Northwestern University. Mr. Nye earned his bachelor of music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was a student of K. David Van Hoesen; he continued his studies at the USC School of Music, where he received his master’s in bassoon performance with Norman Herzberg, son-in-law and student of former New York Philharmonic second bassoonist Simon Kovar.

While a student at the Eastman School he participated in two important recording projects. The first: playing contrabassoon on the Eastman Wind Ensemble’s recording of cornet solos with Wynton Marsalis; the second, playing contrabassoon on the Eastman Philharmonia’s recording, with flutist Sir James Galway, of the world premiere of John Corigliano’s Pied Piper Fantasy. Other recordings of note include the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Stravinsky’s complete Firebird (as principal bassoon) with Edo De Waart conducting. Mr. Nye moved to Sydney, Australia, with his wife, oboist Caroline Park, in 1997, after winning the position of principal bassoon there. He has also served as principal bassoon of the Buffalo Philharmonic and the South Dakota Symphony.

In summer, Mr. Nye has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, where he was soloist with violinist Joseph Silverstein in Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante, and at the Peninsula Music Festival, Door County, Wisconsin, where he served as both principal and solo bassoon. He resides in New Jersey with his wife, Caroline, and their son, Zeke.

Arlen Fast joined the Philharmonic in 1996 as Bassoonist and Contrabassoonist after serving 17 seasons as second bassoonist for the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera. Mr. Fast earned his music degree at Wichita State University in Kansas, where he was second bassoonist of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. While on the West Coast, he studied with Norman Herzberg, who himself had studied with the New York Philharmonic’s former second bassoonist, Simon Kovar. Mr. Fast has performed on tours with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic.

Active in chamber music as well as teaching, Mr. Fast has appeared with the New York Philharmonic's Ensembles at Merkin Concert Hall, the Orchestra's collaboration with the 92nd Street Y Chamber series, the Making Music series at Weill Recital Hall, Music from Copland House, Sunriver Music Festival, Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego, and the Summerfest Chamber Music Festival in La Jolla, California. He has given numerous master classes and lectures, including at Juilliard and U.C.L.A., and was twice the featured guest artist at the Contrabassoon Festival in Park City, Utah.

A pioneer in instrument design, Mr. Fast has invented a new system of register keys for the contrabassoon, the most significant design change for this instrument since the 1870s. This new system greatly improves the performance and significantly extends the practical range of the instrument. His collaboration wtih the Fox Bassoon Company has produced a new, improved instrument, one of which he presently plays in the Philharmonic.

He is married to Anne Ediger, an applied linguist and author who is a professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York.

Matthew Muckey joined the Philharmonic in June 2006. He recently graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in music, studying with Charles Geyer and Barbara Butler. A native of Sacramento, California, he has appeared as soloist with the Omaha Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic, California Wind Orchestra, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, and on NPR’s program, From the Top. He has also played with the Boston Pops Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Chicago Civic Orchestra.

Mr. Muckey was a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center during the summers of 2003 to 2005, and was the recipient of the Roger Voisin Award in 2004 and 2005.

Violinist Anna Rabinova performs nationally and internationally as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and recording artist. She joined the New York Philharmonic in 1994, two years after arriving in the United States from her native Russia; in the 2008–09 season she was a soloist with the Orchestra in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, led by Lorin Maazel.

Ms. Rabinova has toured Germany, Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Bulgaria, performing concertos with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and numerous other European orchestras. They include the Halle Philharmonic, Schwerin Philharmonic, Moscow Radio Orchestra (Vladimir Fedoseev conducting), Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Eisenach Symphony, Russian State Symphony, and Berlin Symphony. In the United States, she has made solo appearances with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Symphony Orchestra (Leon Botstein conducting), and Memphis Symphony, among others, and has premiered works by John Corigliano and Alfred Schnittke.

As a recitalist, Ms. Rabinova has appeared in numerous halls, including the Shauspielhaus in Berlin, Tchaikovsky Philharmonie Hall in Moscow, and Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, as well as in venues in Rome, Leipzig, and Belgrade. In the U.S. she has performed at the Phillips Gallery (Washington, D.C.), Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Bargemusic, and on the Rockefeller University concert series. In April 2004 she served as concertmaster of the Lancaster (Pennsylvania) Symphony Orchestra. Her festival performances have included appearances at the Schleswig Holstein, Berlin Chamber Music, and Long Island Mozart festivals, the Music Festival of the Hamptons, and at Tanglewood and Caramoor.

Ms. Rabinova’s recordings include works by Schuman (for Germany’s Auris-Subtilis) and David Winkler’s Violin Concerto (Naxos); in 1998 she recorded sonatas by Brahms and Schubert for an NHK-TV (Japan) chamber series, which was broadcast worldwide and produced by Paul Smaczny. She has been interviewed and has performed on WLIW-TV in New York, as well as on German and Russian radio.

Anna Rabinova was born in Moscow and performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst’s Violin Concerto, and Paganini’s Violin Concerto with the Moscow State Symphony at the age of 13, later studying at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Leonid Kogan and Igor Bezrodnyi. She was a first-prize winner at the 16th International Violin Competition in Belgrade, in addition to winning the Bach International Competition in Leipzig, Germany, and the 1993 Concerto Competition at The Juilliard School. She has taught at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, and is currently on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, in addition to giving master classes in the U.S. and abroad.

Violinist Duoming Ba joined the New York Philharmonic in 2003. Previously, she was a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. She performs regularly with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles at Merkin Concert Hall, and has been a participant in numerous music festivals, including the Sarasota Music festival. She is also an active soloist and chamber musician, performing in cities in the United States and abroad. Ms. Ba has won numerous violin competitions and awards, including the summer music festival concerto competition at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, and the North Shore Music Center concerto competition.

Born in Beijing China, Ms. Ba began playing the violin at age five. A three-time first-prize winner of Beijing’s Junior Violin Competition, she entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1989. While there she was invited to attend a music festival and competition in Okayama Japan in 1994, and was granted the top prize. She made her solo debut at age 15 in the Beijing Concert Hall with the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, playing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, later touring with that orchestra to Malaysia and Singapore as soloist. She came to the United States in 1996. In the summer of 1998, she performed the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Santa Barbara Festival Orchestra, conducted by Tomas Sanderling, at the Lobero Theatre.

Ms. Ba graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music in 2002 as a student of Joseph Silverstein. Previously, she studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Roland Vamos and Almita Vamos, and in China with Zhong-Long Sheng.

Violist Dawn Hannay has been a member of the Philharmonic since 1979. Before joining the Orchestra, she was principal violist with the Omaha Symphony and the Nebraska Sinfonia, and was a member of the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. She also served as artist-in-residence at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, Australia, and was a member of Ensemble I, a sextet specializing in works for unusual instrumentation.

Ms. Hannay enjoys performing chamber music, appearing often with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles. She has spent the last few summers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, playing with the Grand Tetons Music Festival. She is an avid reader, athlete and nature enthusiast; her interests include hiking, camping, skiing, bird watching, tennis, and her cat and dog.

Since arriving in the United States in 1987, Chinese-born Qiang Tu has established himself as a multifaceted artist much in demand. He won the San Angelo, Texas, Symphony Young Artist Competition in 1987, and the Grand Prize in the Downey Symphony Young Artist Competition of Los Angeles the following year. In 1994, he served as Principal Cellist of the Princeton Chamber Symphony. Mr. Tu joined the New York Philharmonic in November 1995.

After making his solo debut at age 13 in Beijing, Mr. Tu began a two-year engagement as soloist with one of China’s major symphony orchestras. At age 17, he was awarded England’s Menuhin Prize as a member of the China Youth String Quartet, and was later selected by the Chinese government to study in the Sydney Conservatory. In that capacity, he toured the country giving chamber-music and solo recitals, including a concert broadcast live from the Sydney Opera House. The culmination of his Australian tenure came when he won Sydney’s Parlings Award for Music. Returning to Beijing, he was appointed, at age 20, Associate Professor of Cello at the Central Conservatory. Concurrently, he became Principal Cellist of the China Youth Symphony and concertized with the orchestra in Switzerland, West Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, and Great Britain. His solo album, Meditation, was distributed by the China Record Company.

In the United States, Mr. Tu has appeared in Chicago, St. Louis, New York, and other major cities. Early on, he gave a solo recital to benefit the Princeton Chamber Symphony and also performed the Dvořák Cello Concerto with the Greater Princeton Symphony. Additional performances included the Elgar and Walton cello concertos with the Princeton Chamber Symphony. He also performed in recital with pianist Helen Huang to benefit the New Jersey Chinese community.

Mr. Tu’s appearances also include six recitals in Taiwan, including one at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, in addition to recitals in Japan, Hawaii, and at Weill Recital Hall in New York.

His extensive chamber music appearances have included performances with the group, Elysium, at Weill Recital Hall; in Hawaii; and at the Hellenic-American Cultural Association of Colorado. He has performed at chamber music festivals in Maine, played cello works and chamber music in Korea, and has appeared with Lukas Foss in chamber works at Weill Recital Hall and at the Stephanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts in Wisconsin. Mr. Tu has performed on a live broadcast on WNYC, and appears frequently with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles chamber music series at Merkin Concert Hall.

Mr. Tu earned his Bachelor of Arts from China’s Central Conservatory. In 1990, he received his master’s degree from Rutgers University, where he studied with Bernard Greenhouse. Other past teachers include Zara Nelsova, Geoffrey Rutkowski, Lois Simpson, Paul Tortelier, and Zeguang Tu.

Lisa Kim joined the Philharmonic violin section in 1994 and was named Associate Principal, Second Violin Group (In Memory of Laura Mitchell), in 2003. She teaches in South Korea and the United States, and has performed with the Seoul National Philharmonic Orchestra and the SooWon, North Carolina, Winston-Salem, and Durham symphony orchestras. Ms. Kim’s chamber music activities have included the Philharmonic Ensembles series, Hofstra Chamber Ensemble series, Mostly Chamber Festival, Lyric Chamber Music Society, and Brooklyn’s Bargemusic; collaborations with the late Lukas Foss, Lynn Harrell, Ani Kavafian, Yo-Yo Ma, and Garrick Ohlsson; European performances under the International Music Program; and Jordan’s Jurash Festival at the invitation of King Hussein. Lisa Kim began violin studies at age seven, attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School. Violinist Soohyun Kwon became a member of the New York Philharmonic in September 2001. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Ms. Kwon performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Vienna Symphony Chamber Orchestra at the Bregenz Summer Music Festival, Prague Symphony Chamber Orchestra at Smetana Hall, Vienna Mozart Orchestra at the Goldensaal Musikverein, Tchaikovsky Society, Shanghai Symphony, Korea Chamber Ensemble, and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

A founding member of the Alma Piano Trio, she performed with the ensemble at Alice Tully Hall, Salisbury State University, Maryland, and at the Goethe Institute in New York. With her string quartet, Quartet 94, Ms. Kwon toured California, where she performed at the University of Southern California and at the inauguration of the Korean-American Museum in Los Angeles.

Ms. Kwon was born in Seoul, Korea, and began studying the violin at the age of six. She won several top prizes, studying with Nam Yun Kim and Min Kim. While an academic scholarship student at Seoul National University, Ms. Kwon transferred to The Juilliard School and received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees as a student of Glenn Dicterow. Ms. Kwon's interests include Korean and Chinese history and contemporary art.

Sharon Yamada, a member of the New York Philharmonic since 1988, has performed extensively on both the East and West Coasts. She performs regularly with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles at Merkin Hall, and has appeared with the New Jersey Chamber Music Society. Ms. Yamada has performed frequently in the summer at the Grand Teton Music Festival. Other summer activities have included the Aspen, Norfolk, and Chigiana (Siena, Italy) music festivals. Robert Rinehart, who joined the New York Philharmonic’s viola section in 1992, is a familiar figure on the New York chamber-music scene. He has appeared at the Spoleto, Vancouver Chamber Music, and Santa Fe Chamber Music festivals, and with Chamber Music Northwest and The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. A founding member of the Ridge String Quartet, Mr. Rinehart has performed in every major music center in the United States, as well as in Canada, Australia, Japan, and in Europe. He has collaborated with Benny Goodman, Rudolf Firkusny, and the Guarneri String Quartet, among others, and his chamber music recordings have received a Grammy Award, two Grammy nominations, and the Diapason d’Or. A native of San Francisco, Mr. Rinehart studied violin at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Isadore Tinkleman, and at The Curtis Institute of Music with Jaime Laredo, David Cerone, and Ivan Galamian. He is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music.

Sumire Kudo joined the Philharmonic as a cellist in June 2006. Previously she taught at Indiana University–South Bend and was the cellist of the Avalon String Quartet. She is a member of the New York-based new-music group counter)induction, a composer/performer collective. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Ms. Kudo began cello studies at age four with her father, cellist Akiyoshi Kudo. She came to the United States in 2000, after establishing herself in her native country through solo performances and recordings. Her honors include the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award, which she received from the Sony Music Foundation after being chosen by Seiji Ozawa and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi as the most promising cellist in 2005, and prizes at the Sapporo Junior Cello Competition and 62nd Japan Music Competition. Ms. Kudo is a graduate of Tokyo’s Toho School and The Juilliard School. She has participated in the Nagano-Aspen Music, Aspen Music, Santa Fe, and Marlboro Music festivals. Record Geijutsu, Japan’s leading classical music magazine, named her second solo CD, Love of Beauty, Best Recording.

Cellist Ru-Pei Yeh, who joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2006, has performed regularly as a recitalist in her native Taiwan and in the U.S. A founding member of the Formosa Quartet, formed in 2003, she has served as acting principal cello of the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera, in addition to performing with a string quartet of principal players from the San Diego Symphony. She has made solo appearances with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, National Taiwan Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina School of the Arts’s International Music Program Orchestra, and Kuan-Jen School Orchestra, and is the winner of numerous competitions.

Ms. Yeh, who has been performing professionally since the age of 10, moved to the U.S. at 13 to study with Orlando Cole at the Temple Preparatory School. She received her bachelor of music degree from the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Laurence Lesser, and her master’s degree from The Juilliard School in 2004, studying with Joel Krosnick. Bassist David J. Grossman began playing with the New York Philharmonic as its youngest member in December 1999 before graduating from The Juilliard School in May 2000. Born and educated in New York City, Mr. Grossman has performed as double bassist and pianist in orchestral, chamber, and jazz venues worldwide. He is a member of the double bass faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School.

An active chamber musician, Mr. Grossman performs in both the New York Philharmonic’s chamber concerts in collaboration with the 92nd Street Y, with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles Concerts at Merkin Concert Hall, and has performed with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Most recently, he was a featured artist in the 2007 Portland (Maine) Chamber Music Festival as well as the Mt. Desert Festival.

As a composer, Mr. Grossman wrote Mood Swings for trombone and double bass for New York Philharmonic Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi, and composed Fantasy on “Shall We Gather at the River?” for New York Philharmonic English Horn Thomas Stacy’s recording, Plaintive Melody. Two earlier compositions, Swing Quartet and String Quintet No. 1, were written for The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

In the realm of jazz, Mr. Grossman was a member of the Marcus Roberts Trio whose 1996 Columbia recording, Time and Circumstance, was listed in the “best top ten jazz CDs of the year" in both Time and The New York Times. He has also performed with Wynton Marsalis, Lew Tabackin, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Richard Stoltzman, and has recorded with David Morgan and Loston Harris. Bringing together both his classical and jazz interests, Mr. Grossman performed in an impromptu jazz ensemble during a week of joint concerts with the New York Philharmonic and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, culminating in a Live From Lincoln Center telecast and radio broadcast. Violinist Kuan-Cheng Lu joined the New York Philharmonic at the beginning of the 2004-05 season. He received his bachelor's in music degree from Oberlin College, and his master's in music from the Manhattan School of Music. A native of Taiwan, Mr. Lu has received numerous awards and scholarships that include the top prize in the Taiwan National Violin Competition, first prize in the ASTA string competition, the Raphael Bronstein Award, and the Taiwan Chi-Mei Corporation’s Outstanding Young Artist award. Before joining the New York Philharmonic in 1997, cellist Eric Bartlett had already established himself as an artist of formidable talent and artistic integrity. He has appeared frequently as a member soloist with the world famous Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and is featured on several of their Deutsche Grammophon recordings. In addition to Orpheus, his solo appearances include the Cabrillo Festival, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the Anchorage Symphony, the Hartford Chamber Orchestra, the Aspen and Juilliard Orchestras, and the New York Philharmonic’s “Horizons ‘84” series. Mr. Bartlett is the recipient of a Solo Recitalist’s Award from the National Endowment for the Arts and a special Performance Award as a finalist of the 1987 New England Conservatory/Piatigorsky Award. Recent solo appearances include the Cabrillo Music Festival, and the Brattleboro Music Center in Vermont.

Recognized as a leading performer of contemporary music, Mr. Bartlett has participated in more than 90 premieres with ensembles such as Speculum Musicae, the New York New Music Ensemble, the Group for Contemporary Music, and the Columbia String Quartet, and he has commissioned new works for the cello from American composers. During the summer of 2000, Mr. Bartlett was invited by Marin Alsop to be a featured soloist in the North American premiere of James McMillan’s Triduum, the middle third of which is a cello concerto. He has served as either Artist-President or Vice-President of Speculum Musicae since 1990. Mr. Bartlett has performed at the Mostly Mozart, Marlboro, Aspen, Adirondack, Grand Teton, and Waterloo music festivals, and has been a regular participant at the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival since 1996. Mr. Bartlett served as the principal cellist of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and co-principal of Orpheus from 1984 until 1997.

A native of Marlboro, Vermont, Mr. Bartlett’s early teachers included George Finckel and Blanche Honegger Moyse. From 1973 to 1975 he was a student of Leopold Teraspulsky at the University of Massachusetts. He was awarded full scholarships to both the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School and received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Juilliard, where he was a student of Leonard Rose and Channing Robbins.

Mr. Bartlett recorded the cello music of Larry Bell for North-South Records on a CD entitled River of Ponds (which includes a collaboration with narrator Robert J. Lurtsema) and has also recorded for CRI, Opus One, Bridge, Delos, and Deutsche Grammophon. He has served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts and is currently an adjunct professor at The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. He lives in Bergen County, New Jersey, with his wife, Orpheus violist Sarah Clarke, and their son, Cory.

Vladimir Tsypin was born in the Soviet Union and was a top prizewinner there in three major competitions among five Soviet Republics, including the Tchaikovsky National Competition in 1972. He graduated from the Latvian State Conservatory in Riga. After emigrating to the United States, Mr. Tsypin made his Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1979.

As concertmaster and soloist with the Camerata of Los Angeles, he toured the United States, Europe, and Mexico, and spent a year teaching and performing in Taiwan. He joined the New York Philharmonic in 1983, where he was Assistant Principal, Second Violin Section, from 1986–2002. He participates in chamber music as often as possible, and has performed with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. In 1994 and 1995, Mr. Tsypin toured Japan as part of the New York Trio Concertant.

Every summer Mr. Tsypin combines his summer teaching with solo concertizing in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, and Slovakia. He also has served as a judge at the Johannes Brahms International Competition in Austria.

Mr. Tsypin has recorded three solo CDs in Germany and Slovakia; one features him performing his own arrangements and compositions, with Russian poetry and lyrics by his wife, Luba (who also sings on the recording). Another recent release, Songs Without Words for Violin and Piano (Preiser Records), features the music of German composer Nikolaus Schapfl. Three recent releases feature works by composers John Sichel, Joel Suben, and Anthony Louis Scarmolin. Mr. Tsypin, leading New York Philharmonic musicians, recorded the complete salon solo and chamber music of Scarmolin (MSR Classics). In April 2008 Mr. Tsypin performed a concerto by the Argentinean composer Enrique Roel with the Gran Orquesta Sinfonica Ciudad de Buenos Aires. In August 2009 he plans to record music by Argentinean and American composers in Buenos Aires for the Tradition label, as well as to perform recitals there.

Mr. Tsypin is the music director — and his wife is the organizer — of the Artistic Club Luba in New Jersey. Through this chamber-music salon, founded in 1992, they present concerts in other people’s homes as well as in their own.

Yulia Ziskel joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2001, and is active as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician in the United States and around the world. She made her solo recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in March 2002, and has been praised by The Strad magazine for “…the sweetness of her sound.”

Ms. Ziskel’s most recent appearances include critically-acclaimed chamber music performances at the Bellingham (Washington) Music Festival, where she also enjoyed a residency as principal second violin of the Festival Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra, the Julius Grossman Orchestra, in faculty recitals at The Juilliard School, at Cremona Viva, an International Exhibit of Cremonese Instruments, and is a member of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles, making regular appearances at Merkin Concert Hall. Her performance at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s “Meanings of Tchaikovsky” Festival was praised by The New York Times, New Jersey Star Ledger, and by the New Jersey Classical Society Journal. She has also appeared on the radio program The Listening Room, hosted by Robert Sherman on WQXR.

Before her appointment to the New York Philharmonic, Ms. Ziskel was a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, as well as a participant in numerous music festivals, including the Sarasota Music Festival. She was also concertmaster of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan.

Ms. Ziskel was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and began her musical training on the violin and piano at age four. She made her solo debut at the age of seven at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, and at age eleven was a soloist with the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra. During her teenage years she toured extensively, appearing in solo recitals throughout Germany, Finland, Poland, and United States. In 1994 Ms. Ziskel's family emigrated to the United States, where she completed her bachelor of music degree at Indiana University, and upon graduation, received an Honorary Certificate for Outstanding Performance in Violin. In May 2000, Ms. Ziskel received her master’s degree from The Juilliard School. Her awards include First Prize in the Assembly of Arts International Violin Competition and the Anna Bernstein Memorial Award.

A native of Surrey, England, Elizabeth Dyson joined the New York Philharmonic in the Fall of 1996. Previously, she was a member of the Atlanta Symphony and also served as the Principal Cellist of the Canton and Akron Symphonies.

Widely traveled, Ms. Dyson has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and Asia including venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London and Jordan Hall in Boston. She has also been heard frequently on WGBH in Boston and WQXR in New York. As a chamber musician, she enjoys performing regularly at Merkin Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and at Bargemusic, Brooklyn.

Ms. Dyson attended the Yehudi Menuhin School in London under the instruction of William Pleeth and Maurice Gendron and later received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory, where her teachers included Laurence Lesser, Bernard Greenhouse, and Colin Carr.

Ms. Dyson was the recipient of the Jacqueline du Pré Memorial Award and the EMI Record Company Award from the Royal Society of the Arts.
