Lisa Kim joined the Philharmonic violin section in 1994 and was named Associate Principal, Second Violin Group (In Memory of Laura Mitchell), in 2003. She teaches in South Korea and the United States, and has performed with the Seoul National Philharmonic Orchestra and the SooWon, North Carolina, Winston-Salem, and Durham symphony orchestras. Ms. Kim’s chamber music activities have included the Philharmonic Ensembles series, Hofstra Chamber Ensemble series, Mostly Chamber Festival, Lyric Chamber Music Society, and Brooklyn’s Bargemusic; collaborations with the late Lukas Foss, Lynn Harrell, Ani Kavafian, Yo-Yo Ma, and Garrick Ohlsson; European performances under the International Music Program; and Jordan’s Jurash Festival at the invitation of King Hussein. Lisa Kim began violin studies at age seven, attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School. She has won prizes in the Arts Recognition and Talent Search, Bryan Young Artists String Competition, Winston-Salem Young Talent Search, and Durham Symphony Young Artists Competition. Violinist Anna Rabinova performs nationally and internationally as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and recording artist. She joined the New York Philharmonic in 1994, two years after arriving in the United States from her native Russia; in the 2008–09 season she was a soloist with the Orchestra in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, led by Lorin Maazel.

Ms. Rabinova has toured Germany, Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Bulgaria, performing concertos with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and numerous other European orchestras. They include the Halle Philharmonic, Schwerin Philharmonic, Moscow Radio Orchestra (Vladimir Fedoseev conducting), Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Eisenach Symphony, Russian State Symphony, and Berlin Symphony. In the United States, she has made solo appearances with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Symphony Orchestra (Leon Botstein conducting), and Memphis Symphony, among others, and has premiered works by John Corigliano and Alfred Schnittke.

As a recitalist, Ms. Rabinova has appeared in numerous halls, including the Shauspielhaus in Berlin, Tchaikovsky Philharmonie Hall in Moscow, and Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, as well as in venues in Rome, Leipzig, and Belgrade. In the U.S. she has performed at the Phillips Gallery (Washington, D.C.), Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Bargemusic, and on the Rockefeller University concert series. In April 2004 she served as concertmaster of the Lancaster (Pennsylvania) Symphony Orchestra. Her festival performances have included appearances at the Schleswig Holstein, Berlin Chamber Music, and Long Island Mozart festivals, the Music Festival of the Hamptons, and at Tanglewood and Caramoor.

Ms. Rabinova’s recordings include works by Schuman (for Germany’s Auris-Subtilis) and David Winkler’s Violin Concerto (Naxos); in 1998 she recorded sonatas by Brahms and Schubert for an NHK-TV (Japan) chamber series, which was broadcast worldwide and produced by Paul Smaczny. She has been interviewed and has performed on WLIW-TV in New York, as well as on German and Russian radio.

Anna Rabinova was born in Moscow and performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst’s Violin Concerto, and Paganini’s Violin Concerto with the Moscow State Symphony at the age of 13, later studying at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Leonid Kogan and Igor Bezrodnyi. She was a first-prize winner at the 16th International Violin Competition in Belgrade, in addition to winning the Bach International Competition in Leipzig, Germany, and the 1993 Concerto Competition at The Juilliard School. She has taught at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, and is currently on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, in addition to giving master classes in the U.S. and abroad.

Solo piccolo and flutist Mindy Kaufman joined the New York Philharmonic in 1979 at the age of 22. She received a bachelor of music degree from the Eastman School of Music, and at the age of 19 won her first audition — as second flute with the Rochester Philharmonic. She also performed as acting principal flute with the Milwaukee Symphony, during which time she recorded works by Dvořák and Kodály. Ms. Kaufman has appeared as a piccolo soloist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of then-Music Directors Zubin Mehta and Kurt Masur. She performs chamber music regularly with her colleagues in the Philharmonic Ensembles and has performed at summer festivals including the Mt. Desert Festival of Chamber Music and the Grand Teton Music Festival. Ms. Kaufman can be heard on dozens of film sound tracks, including The Cotton Club, The Untouchables, Cape Fear, Aladdin, The Alamo, Hitch, and The Last Holiday. Oboist Robert Botti joined the New York Philharmonic in 1992, having been principal oboe of the New York City Opera Orchestra. He has appeared as soloist with the New York Symphonic Ensemble and performed in the Grand Teton, Bach Stony Brook, and Music from Colorado festivals. He has collaborated and recorded with Gunther Schuller and Wynton Marsalis as a guest artist with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and is a member of the Sylvan Winds, with whom he has given many premieres. He can be heard on recordings with the Philharmonic’s Principal Bassoon Judith LeClair, Sylvan Winds, Philharmonia Virtuosi, New York Kammermusiker, Amadeus Ensemble, and Harmonie Ensemble; he is featured on the premiere recording of Arnold Sturm’s Suite for Oboe and Piano. Pascual Martinez Forteza joined the New York Philharmonic as Second Clarinet in May 2001 after a tenure with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, where he had been Second Clarinet since 1998. From 1999-2000, he also served as that orchestra’s Acting Associate Principal Clarinet. Prior to his appointment in Cincinnati, Mr. Martinez Forteza was Assistant Principal Clarinet of the Symphony Orchestra of Baleares, Spain, from 1991-1998. He also performed with Madrid’s National Orchestra of Spain from 1993-1995.

After earning a professor’s degree from the Baleares and Barcelona Superior Music Conservatories, Mr. Martinez Forteza pursued advanced studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. There, he received first prize in the University’s 1998 Concerto Competition. His principal teachers have included Yehuda Gilad, Guy Deplus, and Pascual Vicente Martinez. In addition, Mr. Martinez Forteza has performed in master classes under Andrew Marriner, Anthony Pay, Enrique Perez, Michele Zukovsky, Mitchel Lurie, and Walter Seyfarth.

Kim Laskowski joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2003 as Associate Principal Bassoon. Born in Brooklyn, she attended the High School of Music and Art and The Juilliard School, where she studied with Harold Goltzer, former Associate Principal Bassoon of the New York Philharmonic. While at Juilliard she won the Walter and Elsie Naumburg Award for Orchestral Excellence. She completed a master’s degree at Juilliard while playing in the National Orchestral Association, and has also participated in the Tanglewood and Spoleto festivals. Recipient of a Fulbright grant for foreign study, she attended the Conservatoire National Superieure de Paris, where she was a student of Maurice Allard. While at the Conservatoire, she toured Europe as a member of the Orchestre des Prix.

As an active player on the New York musical scene, Ms. Laskowski has appeared with ensembles such as the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Symphony Orchestra, and Eos Orchestra. She can be heard on numerous television, radio, and film scores, and holds two platinum records for CDs recorded with the rock group 10,000 Maniacs. As a chamber player, she has performed and recorded several CDs with Music Amici in classical, jazz, and 20th-century works for mixed ensembles.

Before joining the Philharmonic, Ms. Laskowski played second bassoon in the New York City Ballet Orchestra. She was principal bassoon of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra from 1999 through 2003.

Philip Myers joined the Philharmonic as Principal French Horn (The Ruth F. and Alan J. Broder Chair) in January 1980, and made his solo debut with the Orchestra that month in the premiere of William Schuman’s Three Colloquies for French Horn and Orchestra. He has since appeared as a Philharmonic soloist often, most recently performing Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2, conducted by Lorin Maazel, in New York in January 2008 and again in February 2008 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Shanghai, China. Mr. Myers began his orchestral career in 1971 with a three-year term as principal horn of the Atlantic Symphony in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was third horn with the Pittsburgh Symphony from 1974 until 1977. As principal horn of the Minnesota Orchestra for a season and a half, he made a solo debut with that ensemble in 1979, performing Richard Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 1, Sir Neville Marriner conducting. A native of Elkhart, Indiana, Mr. Myers holds two degrees from Carnegie–Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He plays Engelbert Schmid French horns.

Violinist Kuan-Cheng Lu joined the New York Philharmonic at the beginning of the 2004-05 season. He received his bachelor's in music degree from Oberlin College, and his master's in music from the Manhattan School of Music. A native of Taiwan, Mr. Lu has received numerous awards and scholarships that include the top prize in the Taiwan National Violin Competition, first prize in the ASTA string competition, the Raphael Bronstein Award, and the Taiwan Chi-Mei Corporation’s Outstanding Young Artist award. He has studied with New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow and Philharmonic violinists Yoko Takebe and Lisa Kim. Other teachers have included Roland and Almita Vamos, Julia Bushkova, as well as his father, Chung Chih Lu.

A native of Surrey, England, Elizabeth Dyson joined the New York Philharmonic in the Fall of 1996. Previously, she was a member of the Atlanta Symphony and also served as the Principal Cellist of the Canton and Akron Symphonies.

Widely traveled, Ms. Dyson has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and Asia including venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London and Jordan Hall in Boston. She has also been heard frequently on WGBH in Boston and WQXR in New York. As a chamber musician, she enjoys performing regularly at Merkin Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and at Bargemusic, Brooklyn.

Ms. Dyson attended the Yehudi Menuhin School in London under the instruction of William Pleeth and Maurice Gendron and later received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory, where her teachers included Laurence Lesser, Bernard Greenhouse, and Colin Carr.

Ms. Dyson was the recipient of the Jacqueline du Pré Memorial Award and the EMI Record Company Award from the Royal Society of the Arts.

Associate Principal Oboe Sherry Sylar joined the New York Philharmonic in 1984. Previously she performed with the Louisville Orchestra and taught at the University of Evansville in Indiana. Her most recent solo performance with the Philharmonic was in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin in March 2005. In 2001 the Boston Symphony Orchestra invited her to perform solo principal oboe in tour performances led by Bernard Haitink, which concluded with a concert at Carnegie Hall, and in 2003 she substituted for an ailing principal oboist for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France’s Carnegie Hall debut conducted by Myung-Whun Chung. She was also invited to China as a judge in the Beijing National Orchestra’s first-ever auditions. Ms. Sylar earned her bachelor’s degree in music at Indiana University and her master’s degree from Northwestern University. She gives master classes internationally, has participated in the Aspen and Grand Teton Music Festivals, and performs chamber music regularly, including at Merkin Concert Hall and the 92nd Street Y. Percussionist Daniel Druckman is active as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and recording artist, concertizing throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. He has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the American Composer’s Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic’s Horizons concerts, the San Francisco Symphony’s New and Unusual Music series, and in recital in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Tokyo. He has been a member of the New York Philharmonic since 1991, where he serves as Associate Principal Percussionist, and has made numerous guest appearances with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Da Capo Chamber Players, the American Brass Quintet, the Group for Contemporary Music, Orpheus, Steve Reich and Musicians, and the Philip Glass Ensemble. Mr. Druckman has also participated in chamber music festivals at Santa Fe, Ravinia, Saratoga, Caramoor, Bridgehampton, Tanglewood, and Aspen.

An integral part of New York’s new music community, both as soloist and as a member of the New York New Music Ensemble and Speculum Musicae, Mr. Druckman has premiered works by Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, Jacob Druckman, Aaron Jay Kernis, Oliver Knussen, Poul Ruders, Joseph Schwantner, Ralph Shapey, and Charles Wuorinen, among many others. Recent appearances include collaborations with Alan Feinberg at Dartmouth College, with Fred Sherry at BargeMusic, with Dawn Upshaw at Carnegie Hall, and solo concerts at Columbia University’s Miller Theatre and Merkin Concert Hall in New York. Recent solo recordings include Elliott Carter’s Eight Pieces for Four Timpani and Jacob Druckman’s Reflections on the Nature of Walter on Koch International. Mr. Druckman is a faculty member of The Juilliard School, where he serves as chairman of the percussion department and director of the percussion ensemble.

Daniel Druckman was born and raised in New York City. The son of composer Jacob Druckman, he had invaluable exposure to music and musicians at an early age. He attended The Juilliard School, where he was awarded the Morris A. Goldenberg Memorial Scholarship and the Saul Goodman Scholarship, receiving both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music in 1980. Additional studies were undertaken at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood, where he was awarded the Henry Cabot Award for outstanding instrumentalist. He currently resides in Orangeburg, New York, with his wife, harpist Barbara Allen, and two daughters.

Bassist David J. Grossman began playing with the New York Philharmonic as its youngest member in December 1999 before graduating from The Juilliard School in May 2000. Born and educated in New York City, Mr. Grossman has performed as double bassist and pianist in orchestral, chamber, and jazz venues worldwide. He is a member of the double bass faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School.

An active chamber musician, Mr. Grossman performs in both the New York Philharmonic’s chamber concerts in collaboration with the 92nd Street Y, with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles Concerts at Merkin Concert Hall, and has performed with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Most recently, he was a featured artist in the 2007 Portland (Maine) Chamber Music Festival as well as the Mt. Desert Festival.

As a composer, Mr. Grossman wrote Mood Swings for trombone and double bass for New York Philharmonic Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi, and composed Fantasy on “Shall We Gather at the River?” for New York Philharmonic English Horn Thomas Stacy’s recording, Plaintive Melody. Two earlier compositions, Swing Quartet and String Quintet No. 1, were written for The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

In the realm of jazz, Mr. Grossman was a member of the Marcus Roberts Trio whose 1996 Columbia recording, Time and Circumstance, was listed in the “best top ten jazz CDs of the year" in both Time and The New York Times. He has also performed with Wynton Marsalis, Lew Tabackin, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Richard Stoltzman, and has recorded with David Morgan and Loston Harris. Bringing together both his classical and jazz interests, Mr. Grossman performed in an impromptu jazz ensemble during a week of joint concerts with the New York Philharmonic and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, culminating in a Live From Lincoln Center telecast and radio broadcast. Yulia Ziskel joined the New York Philharmonic in September 2001, and is active as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician in the United States and around the world. She made her solo recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in March 2002, and has been praised by The Strad magazine for “…the sweetness of her sound.”

Ms. Ziskel’s most recent appearances include critically-acclaimed chamber music performances at the Bellingham (Washington) Music Festival, where she also enjoyed a residency as principal second violin of the Festival Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra, the Julius Grossman Orchestra, in faculty recitals at The Juilliard School, at Cremona Viva, an International Exhibit of Cremonese Instruments, and is a member of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles, making regular appearances at Merkin Concert Hall. Her performance at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s “Meanings of Tchaikovsky” Festival was praised by The New York Times, New Jersey Star Ledger, and by the New Jersey Classical Society Journal. She has also appeared on the radio program The Listening Room, hosted by Robert Sherman on WQXR.

Before her appointment to the New York Philharmonic, Ms. Ziskel was a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, as well as a participant in numerous music festivals, including the Sarasota Music Festival. She was also concertmaster of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan.

Ms. Ziskel was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and began her musical training on the violin and piano at age four. She made her solo debut at the age of seven at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, and at age eleven was a soloist with the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra. During her teenage years she toured extensively, appearing in solo recitals throughout Germany, Finland, Poland, and United States. In 1994 Ms. Ziskel's family emigrated to the United States, where she completed her bachelor of music degree at Indiana University, and upon graduation, received an Honorary Certificate for Outstanding Performance in Violin. In May 2000, Ms. Ziskel received her master’s degree from The Juilliard School. Her awards include First Prize in the Assembly of Arts International Violin Competition and the Anna Bernstein Memorial Award.

Sumire Kudo joined the Philharmonic as a cellist in June 2006. Previously she taught at Indiana University–South Bend and was the cellist of the Avalon String Quartet. She is a member of the New York-based new-music group counter)induction, a composer/performer collective. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Ms. Kudo began cello studies at age four with her father, cellist Akiyoshi Kudo. She came to the United States in 2000, after establishing herself in her native country through solo performances and recordings. Her honors include the Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award, which she received from the Sony Music Foundation after being chosen by Seiji Ozawa and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi as the most promising cellist in 2005, and prizes at the Sapporo Junior Cello Competition and 62nd Japan Music Competition. Ms. Kudo is a graduate of Tokyo’s Toho School and The Juilliard School. She has participated in the Nagano-Aspen Music, Aspen Music, Santa Fe, and Marlboro Music festivals. Record Geijutsu, Japan’s leading classical music magazine, named her second solo CD, Love of Beauty, Best Recording.
