Debuting with the New York Philharmonic in 1885 at the age of 18, virtuoso violinist Maud Powell gave the U.S. premieres of concertos by Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, and Sibelius (works being performed by the New York Philharmonic and guest artists this autumn).
