The New York Philharmonic invites you to enter its 2008 Concerts in the Parks Photo Contest. You must read the following rules, terms, and conditions before submitting any photos.
The New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks 2008 Photo Contest (the "contest") is open to ALL participants (the “participant”) at least 18 years of age, excluding employees of the New York Philharmonic and the immediate families of such employees. The contest is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit – including ownership, if applicable – other than those rights licensed as follows: by entering the contest, you hereby grant to the New York Philharmonic (i) a nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display, and publicly perform the photographs you submit to the New York Philharmonic, and (ii) the right to use your name, city, state, and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
All photographs will be credited with the caption "© Participant's Name." The New York Philharmonic has final approval of any language that appears on its Website in connection to any of the photos and will not promote or endorse third-party products or services. Entrant warrants that the submitted photograph is owned by the entrant, and is an original, non-published work that does not infringe upon the rights of any third parties.
Go to the image you wish to submit to the contest and use the "Send to Group" function to add your images to the New York Philharmonic's Photo Contest pool. Once your image is added to the group, tag each photo with nyphilparks2008. If you do not upload your photo to the New York Philharmonic's group on Flickr, or do not tag your photo with an appropriate tag, it will not be considered for competition.
If you have trouble using Flickr, please consult their online help files. The New York Philharmonic is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while trying to upload a photo onto Flickr.
Entries may originate in any format – including but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black-and-white prints – so long as they are submitted electronically in JPG/JPEG format.
Judging will be based on which picture best represents the experience of attending the New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, as well as creativity, artistic merit, composition, and overall impact. Images will be judged by a panel of New York Philharmonic staff members who are familiar with photography, and who are responsible for selecting images for various New York Philharmonic print and electronic marketing and public relations materials.
The New York Philharmonic shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.
The deadline for submitting photo entries is 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
Finalists will be announced on Friday, August 1, 2008. Public voting will be held for a one-week period to begin no earlier than Friday, July 25, 2008, and to end no later than Thursday, July 31, 2008. Winners will be announced on Friday, August 1, 2008.
The New York Philharmonic reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.
The judging panel will select at least 35 photos to be the contest’s finalists and honorable mentions. The general public will select the winners in each category — from a pool of finalists determined by the judging panel — via the "Voter's Choice Awards."
The winner of each photo category will receive a pair of tickets selected by the New York Philharmonic to a future New York Philharmonic concert.
