Focus on Mahler, by Mahler's Orchestra
Mahler in the 2011-2012 Season
The New York Philharmonic has a long and treasured relationship with the great composer-conductor Gustav Mahler, the Orchestra's music director from 1909 to 1911; in fact, the New York Philharmonic was the last orchestra he conducted. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of his birth and the 100th anniversary of his death, the Philharmonic is joined by some of today's leading Mahler interpreters for performances of his most magnificent works, including his Second and Sixth symphonies, works performed in America for the first time by this Orchestra and which, along with other Mahler compositions, are featured in the Philharmonic's 2011–12 season.
