The musicians arrive in Tokyo their first visit to Japan since October 2004. While adjusting to the time change, they find opportunities to take in some of the sights before performing their first concert, at Tokyo Opera City, with violinist Lidia Baich making her Philharmonic debut.

A first-ever concert in Oita is followed by a return to Tokyo for the second of five performances as well as a press conference, embassy reception, chamber concert, and a special Philharmonic teaching symposium for Japanese musicians. Pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger will make his New York Philharmonic debut in one of the concerts.

Musicians catch a few moments to sightsee in Tokyo between rehearsals and two concerts, the first featuring cellist Alisa Weilerstein in Elgar's Cello Concerto; the second with pianist Yuja Wang performing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1.

The final concert in Tokyo features the Philharmonic debut of cellist Johannes Moser, one of five up-and-coming artists being introduced to Tokyo audiences during this Philharmonic visit. A reception by Shinsei Bank, one of the Japan sponsors, and a free day to relax, wind up the activities in Tokyo. Then it's on to the Hyogo prefecture for a performance at the Hyogo Performing Arts Center. Next stop: Seoul.

The Orchestra arrives in Seoul and travels to the Seoul Arts Center the following day for a rehearsal and a concert at night, with Korean pianist Joyce Yang making her Philharmonic debut.

The musicians head to the Daejeon Culture & Arts center for a concert of Rachmaninoff and Beethoven, with pianist Joyce Yang playing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Then it's a free morning for last-minute sight-seeing and shopping before the 14-hour flight back to New York.
