About the Tour
In anticipation of his valedictory season as the New York Philharmonic’s Music Director, Lorin Maazel leads this 9-city, 13-concert tour, August 28–September 12, 2008, the Orchestra’s first tour of Europe with Credit Suisse, Global Sponsor of the New York Philharmonic. After two concerts at the BBC Proms, London, the Orchestra will travel to leading festivals — Frankfurt's Rheingau Music Festival, Hamburg’s Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Lucerne Festival — as well as to historic halls in Essen, Paris, Stuttgart, Baden-Baden, and Bonn.

September 12–13 Bonn to New York
The New York Philharmonic travels to Bonn for the final, sold-out concert on the Tour of Europe 2008. Then it’s back to New York for the Opening Night Gala Concert on September 17.
September 10–11 Stuttgart and Baden-Baden
The New York Philharmonic travels to Stuttgart and Baden-Baden for two days of sold-out concerts and music by Ravel, Bartók, Tchaikovsky, and Bruckner. During the daytime the musicians snatch moments to see the sights and capture the flavors of these German cities.
September 8–10 Paris
The Philharmonic's Parisian visit is a full one: in addition to performing chamber music at a tea at the Residence of the U.S. Ambassador as well as two sold-out concerts at the Salle Pleyel, the musicians manage to see the sights, from the Georges Pompidou Center to the Eiffel Tower.
September 4–7 Lucerne to Paris
For the Orchestra, it's three cities and three concerts in four days! After three performances at the Lucerne Festival, the Philharmonic gives two sold-out concerts in Essen and then travels to Paris. Somehow, the musicians find time to visit with friends and family.
September 2–4 Lucerne
The Philharmonic settles in for three days of performances at the renowned Lucerne Festival with some time to explore this Swiss city’s sights and visit with Global Sponsor Credit Suisse.
August 29–September 1 London to Zurich
After a final performance at London’s BBC Proms, it’s on to Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, Hamburg’s Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and a private chamber concert in Zurich. The Orchestra is traveling nonstop!
August 28–29 London
The New York Philharmonic performs its first concert of the Tour of Europe 2008 at the BBC Proms in London, with a World Premiere–New York Philharmonic-BBC Proms Co-Commission by Steven Stucky, and works by Gershwin and Stravinsky. In between rehearsals and the concert, the musicians find time to sightsee and relax.
August 26–27 London
The New York Philharmonic has arrived; before the concerts start on August 28, there is some time for a little shopping, dining, and sightseeing, as well as a private chamber concert.
